Bluebird day in Nozawa Onsen

For the Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 03 March 2016 we can report that there is not a cloud in the sky here today in Nozawa Onsen. The forecast suggests that we may see some cloud forming with light snow flurries, though at this stage it’s looking like a bluebird for us. The pistes are still fantastic with plenty of fast and fresh snow.

Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 03 March 2016: Overview

The powder seems to have become somewhat crusty lower down due to sun followed by cold temperatures overnight, though you’ll probably still have good chances up top of finding some powder. The last two days have been absolutely brilliant and we’re hoping that will carry on into today to make three awesome days.

Temperatures will be rising over the next few days, reaching the warmest point on Sunday before cooling back down again for the start of the new week. It looks like there’ll be a couple of bluebird days in there and a couple of cloudy days too. Winds should be fairly mild for most of the coming week. We’re expecting some more snow once the temperatures drop after the weekend.

The Yamabiko A course is closed at the moment and will reopen on the 8th of March. There is a race being held from the 5th until the 8th so be sure to head over and catch a glimpse of some of the race if you can. It should be an exciting event!

Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 24 January 2014

Very very cold here last night in Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort but today the sun is shining and all is good with the world. No fresh snow overnight so today everyone is riding nice firm groomers with still plenty of soft stuff to be found if you look. Should be the same tomorrow till later in the day when there will be some more snow continuing through Sunday, although there is also a slight chance of some rain lower down.

Over the weekend there will be all kinds of goodies to trial including snowbikes. Check it out next to the Nagasaka ticket box between 10-3 on Saturday and Sunday.

Nozawa Snow Report: Finally a Bluebird day

Finally the Bluebird day we were waiting for in Nozawa Onsen. The forecast had promised us one yesterday but turned out to be a bit of a greybird. Even had a bit of snow, enough to fill in the lines from the groomers!

Today will be a picture perfect day on the slopes and pretty quiet again. Was a bunch of kids doing cross-country on the Olympic course this morning for a school meet. There were lots of waves and hellos along the ski road this morning.

Temps are a bit warmer than has been, sitting just above 0 degrees. The next decent dump has come forward a bit too and looks like should begin on Friday night.

The Nozawa Ski School is also running snowshoe tours on the slopes this year from the end of January until April. Will be a guided tour thru the Buna Forest up at Uenotaira and almost a full day at a cost of 6000 Yen. Great way to see the local environment and might even spot a Kamoshika the local deer/goat type animal. They are pretty majestic and always a buzz to see them when on the mountain.
