Nozawa Weather: Blue sky
After a nice dump earlier this week there’s been a couple of quite warm days in Nozawa with no snow to speak of. But as the end game looms here for the season there’s more snow forecast. Today temperatures are in the plus and climbed up to 3 degrees on the mountain this morning. Probably best to head up early, get a few runs in and take it easy in the afternoon. There are many great restaurants on the mountain where you can enjoy your lunch outside in the sun. There is a still a very good base and the snow varies between corn, groomed and a bit slushy. It will be still good fun to ride and it looks like the sun is just breaking through the clouds right now.
Great conditions yesterday. In the morning there were plenty of fresh powder lines on offer. Got a bit slushy in the afternoon, but over all a fantastic day. Not a single cloud in the sky all day long and again a stunning sunset in the evening.
As we said after the warm spring conditions from today it looks like temperatures will drop overnight and snow will start coming in tomorrow morning. Heavy snow on the forecast Saturday afternoon. Have a great weekend in Nozawa Onsen.
Here’s a great Nozawa Onsen ski video from this week. Enjoy!
Finally a burst of sun for a very content slide home
Has been a while but yesterday afternoon the sun burst on to the stage to create a magic day on the slopes.
With a 420cm base, a good overnight dump and very few crowds the stage was set for perfection. Snow conditions were excellent under foot on the groomers and up on the slopes of Yamabiko there was even a good coverage of powder that remained untouched for most of the morning.
Had some snow last night but the sun is out again this morning so should be another amazing day. Visibility is looking pretty good up top too so a chance to take a good look around.
The clearing of snow continues in the Village, the roofs are lined with people doing their best to take some of the weight off. Trucks and shovels are going hard below to take it away. A big ‘otsukaresama’ and well done to everyone in town for their efforts in the extreme conditions we have experienced.
The outlook is for more snowy days ahead. Not as heavy as was previously expected but still consistent good moderate
Clearing the deck before the next big dump in Nozawa
Heard the snow sliding off my roof at about midnight last night but it sounded pretty heavy. Even copped a bit of the four-letter word that we don’t like to hear, rain last night down in the village. It quickly changed to sleet and up top we got about 10cm of fresh snow.
Today is a bit of a mixed bag of weather too with some snow, sun and everything in between! The sun is trying to make an appearance at the moment but is still a little shy. On the mountain this morning conditions were pretty good and some fresh pockets could be found in places. Some of the guys headed under the chairs at Yamabiko and reported nice snow on the faces down in to the natural half pipe.
The lift line was a bit of a bottleneck at the bottom of Yamabiko A which tends to happen on the weekends but the rest of the lifts were not bad at all for a Sunday morning. The groomers were quite soft under foot with that bit of a dusting.
The next big dump is still looming from Tuesday on and looks like it should get heavy later in the week. Everyone is working hard to clear the decks in preparation for what is on the way.
