Another picture perfect morning in Nozawa Onsen today. Clear cloudless skies are providing great views across the valley, its sure to be a fine day on the hill. Since last lifts yesterday we have had another unexpected 5cm fall across most of the resort, just enough to fill in yesterdays tracks and provide some sweet fresh lines.
Again, the best riding earlier will be in the Yamabiko area, which is very beautiful at the moment with heavily snow laden trees. As the day progresses and the sun takes hold head to the north facing slopes which will retain the best snow quality. The park and pipe will also be worth a look during the afternoon. Make the most of the fresh powder while it lasts, we are due for a break in snowfalls for a few days.
Yesterday was very similar to what we have today. Partly cloudy skies cleared by mid morning coupled with the powder that fell the night before ensured there was some excellent skiing and boarding on offer. Trees runs were great in the morning and during the afternoon the groomers were prime for some fast paced carves or mellow cruising.
As suggested earlier we will experience a break in snowfalls for at least the next half week or so with mostly fine clear weather forecast. Temperatures will remain cold until Wednesday afternoon when a rise in the freezing level is suggested. This will peak at around 2000m on Thursday at this stage. Luckily this is just a brief event with temperatures declining again Friday into Saturday. We expected some light snowfalls during this time.
