Autumn is slowly losing the battle with Winter in Autumn is slowly losing the battle with Winter in Nozawa Nozawa Onsen Snow Report – November 22, 2025
❄ Another fresh top-up overnight!
Nozawa woke to a beautiful sight again this morning — another nice little dump of fresh snow up on the upper mountain. The peaks are looking whiter by the day, and with the cooler temps settling in, the long-term outlook is really starting to take shape. Winter is slowly but surely locking in, and the mountain crews are gearing up for a strong season ahead. No fresh snow in the village itself, but you can definitely feel that crisp winter bite in the air. Up top, the snow base is steadily building, and if this pattern continues, we could see some excellent early-season conditions before long. If you’re planning a trip, now’s the perfect time to book your ski and snowboard rentals.
Nozawa Central Rentals has you covered with a great range of quality gear, knowledgeable rental technicians, and even a ski locker right on the slopes for maximum convenience.

The forecast looks sunny the next few days with a bot of snow expected Tuesday Night then regular top ups every few days. The resort should most likely open in a week! Saturday the 29th could see Yamabiko at least ready to roll.

❄ Fir Nozawa Onsen Snow Report – November 20, 2025
❄ First report of the season!
Winter is officially making its debut in Nozawa Onsen! The village saw its first snow yesterday, dusting rooftops, streets, and trees with a delicate white coating. The whole scene is pure postcard material — perfect for an early-season stroll with a warm drink in hand.
🏔 Mountain Conditions:
Up on the slopes, the snowfall has been even more generous. Higher elevations are now blanketed with around 30cm of fresh early-season powder, and a few keen locals have already hiked up to sneak in some pre-season turns.
It’s another picture-perfect morning up there today. Check out the webcams — they’ll make you want to head up and dive in:
https://nozawa-onsen.com/nozawa-webcams/
The resort has announced it plans to run the Gondola from November 29th, snow or not. With a decent base now set and more snow expected around the 26th, there’s a real chance lifts could be rolling on the last weekend of November. Stay tuned.

Autumn to Winter in Nozawa Onsen
Are we ready for Autumn to Winter in Nozawa Onsen
Are we ready for the transition?
There’s always a magical moment in Nozawa Onsen when the colours of autumn begin to fade and the first real breath of winter rolls down from the peaks. It looks like we may get a short flash of that moment from tomorrow night.
The village has been glowing in reds and golds all week — but from tomorrow evening, we could see a brief seasonal shift. Forecasts are calling for a big 60cm dump up top, with snow expected to fall right down to the village by lunchtime Tuesday. The mountains are about to trade their autumn jacket for a full winter coat. Looking at the longer range, we might even see a little more on Friday night — though I don’t think true winter is quite ready to settle in just yet.
The real question is whether this dump, combined with some snowmaking, will be enough for the resort to open on the 29th. It’s going to be borderline, with sunshine and slightly warmer temps forecast just before opening day. We’ll have to wait and see.
Either way, winter is coming fast. Most locals are secretly hoping for a bit more time — there’s still plenty to prepare.
But ready or not… winter is knocking.
Should we let her in? ❄️ Check out more on Autumn in Nozawa here; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/nozawa-onsen-summer/autumn-travel-nozawa-japan/ Slide for Autumn highlights.
Getting to Nozawa Onsen: The Best and Easiest Ways Getting to Nozawa Onsen: The Best and Easiest Ways to Travel and get on these lifts with ease. Heading to Nozawa Onsen this winter? Here are the easiest and safest ways to get here so you can start enjoying the snow as soon as possible.
🚐 Take the Snow Shuttle
The most convenient option is the Snow Shuttle from Narita or Haneda Airports. It runs direct from the airport to Nozawa Onsen, no stress, and no dragging your luggage through stations. It’s reliable, comfortable, and gets you right to the village. Book on the Nozawa Holidays site here; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/shuttle-bus/ 🚆 Train Travel
The train is another excellent way to reach Nozawa. Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Iiyama Station, then hop on the local bus straight to the village. Fast, scenic, and easy—perfect for visitors wanting a smooth trip. 🚗 Avoid Driving If You Can
We don’t recommend driving to Nozawa in winter. Roads can be dangerous with heavy snow, and parking in the village is extremely limited. You truly don’t need a car once you’re here. 🚶 Walk Everywhere in the Village
One of the best things about Nozawa Onsen is its walkability. Everything—restaurants, onsens, lifts, shops, cafés—is a stroll away. A car just becomes a hassle you won’t use. Whether you take the shuttle or the train, getting to Nozawa is easy. Leave the car behind, relax, and enjoy the ride—your holiday starts the moment you’re on your way.
We look forward to seeing you. More info here; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/getting-to-nozawa-onsen/
