Its another visual stunner in Nozawa Onsen this morning. Clear skies, sun, light wind and 10cm of unexpected fresh snow overnight. Make sure you bring the camera unto capture the scenery or better yet, book in a skiing or boarding photo session with Nozawa Holidays for personalised skiing action shots.
Its a Japanese national holiday today so expect it to be a bit busier on the slopes than normal. Worth a look this morning will be the Yamabiko tree runs that will be loaded with fresh or those who are after mellow groomed runs might want to explore the mid station area to escape potential crowds.
Yesterday saw excellent conditions as clouds and snowfalls moved away early in the day to be replaced with beautiful sunshine. Powder was abundant across the mountain which made for many happy faces as the classic Nozawa Onsen trees were lapped and the pistes cruised upon.
Looking at the forecast ahead we can expect a slight warming trend over the next 36 hours in combination with clear weather. There are then predictions of a solid dump commencing Thursday night lasting into Saturday. Very cold temperatures are forecast however I am hesitant to call huge numbers based on the same wind direction variation that occurred during the last snowfalls. Nevertheless its safe to say that there will at least be some snowfalls over the weekend.
