Base at top: 125 cm
Temp at Top; -9 Degrees
Base at Uenotaira 100 cm
New Snow since close: 30 cm
Weather; light snow
Yesterday was unusually stormy. There was thunder and lightning in the early hours with heavy snowfall throughout the day. The snow wasn’t our usual fluffy Japanese powder, though once the strong winds ceased, the snow continued to dump in its typical light, fluffy form. We’re now sitting on a base of 125cm, with 30cm of fresh in the past 24 hours. The mountain was closed above Uenotaira Station due to winds being too high, so everything up the top will be untouched for us today!
The snow is still falling lightly and is expected to do so for the next few days before another big dump sets in this weekend. Now this is starting to look more like the Nozawa we know! The heaviest snow will fall all over Nozawa on Saturday night, with the freezing level sitting at 0m. Temperatures will be very low on Sunday; It could possibly be the coldest day of the season so stay extra warm.
Enjoy the powder up there today; There’s lots to go around!
