Heard the snow sliding off my roof at about midnight last night but it sounded pretty heavy. Even copped a bit of the four-letter word that we don’t like to hear, rain last night down in the village. It quickly changed to sleet and up top we got about 10cm of fresh snow. Today is[…]

Getting to Nozawa Onsen: The Best and Easiest Ways Getting to Nozawa Onsen: The Best and Easiest Ways to Travel and get on these lifts with ease. Heading to Nozawa Onsen this winter? Here are the easiest and safest ways to get here so you can start enjoying the snow as soon as possible.
🚐 Take the Snow Shuttle
The most convenient option is the Snow Shuttle from Narita or Haneda Airports. It runs direct from the airport to Nozawa Onsen, no stress, and no dragging your luggage through stations. It’s reliable, comfortable, and gets you right to the village. Book on the Nozawa Holidays site here; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/shuttle-bus/ 🚆 Train Travel
The train is another excellent way to reach Nozawa. Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Iiyama Station, then hop on the local bus straight to the village. Fast, scenic, and easy—perfect for visitors wanting a smooth trip. 🚗 Avoid Driving If You Can
We don’t recommend driving to Nozawa in winter. Roads can be dangerous with heavy snow, and parking in the village is extremely limited. You truly don’t need a car once you’re here. 🚶 Walk Everywhere in the Village
One of the best things about Nozawa Onsen is its walkability. Everything—restaurants, onsens, lifts, shops, cafés—is a stroll away. A car just becomes a hassle you won’t use. Whether you take the shuttle or the train, getting to Nozawa is easy. Leave the car behind, relax, and enjoy the ride—your holiday starts the moment you’re on your way.
We look forward to seeing you. More info here; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/getting-to-nozawa-onsen/
Are we in for a big snow season ahead in Nozawa? Are we in for a big snow season ahead in Nozawa? Who knows :) Always hard to tell this early but things are starting to shape up for an early start again this year. Check out the cams, looking nice and white up top this morning after what looks like about 10cm up top overnight. https://nozawa-onsen.com/nozawa-webcams/ It’s now snowed for the third time up top in Nozawa Onsen — and as the locals say, when it snows three times on the mountain, the next one usually reaches the village! We’ve got a huge dump forecast for this time next week on Monday and Tuesday, and it’s expected to bring snow right down to village level. Slide to see the forecast. Fingers crossed this is the start of a great season ahead and that the resort can open on the hopeful schedule of November 29th

White, Red, Green and Gold We woke up to a beauti White, Red, Green and Gold
We woke up to a beautiful surprise yesterday morning — 10cm of fresh snow up at Yamabiko in Nozawa! The mountains were glowing in a stunning mix of green, yellow, red, and white — autumn leaves and winter snow competing for attention. 🍁🌲⛄️
Mt Myoko across the valley was also wearing a white dome, always an exciting sight and a sure sign that winter is close!
With the new season just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to pre-book your snow services — from ski rentals and lessons to lift passes, monkey tours, and shuttles.

This is already the second snowfall up top in Nozawa this season. The saying in the village goes — “After the third snow on the mountain, it will fall in the village.” Still a little early yet, with no big systems on the radar, so we may have to wait until late November or early December to see snow in town.
Most locals aren’t in a hurry though — they’re still busy harvesting the last crops and getting ready for the winter rush ahead.
Get ready for another magic season in Nozawa Onsen!
Winter magic awaits in Nozawa but some can’t wait Winter magic awaits in Nozawa but some can’t wait :)
Local gun skier Shogo Kawano has done it again this year — first tracks of the ski season in Nozawa Onsen!
Very marginal conditions with the dusting the other day but it was all he needed to be the first to get up there and make a turn or two. Temps have been up and down a bit with some chilly days and some nice Autumn warmth when the sun comes out.
The forecast is looking interesting — around 15cm of fresh snow expected tomorrow for the top, and with the Ocean still warm, we could be in for some heavy early-season falls thanks to that lake-effect magic, ❄️🌊 have to wait and see. Some nice low pressure systems pushing in some good swell over the weekend. The Million Yen question that we often get asked. When will the Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort Open?
The Ski resort will usually try and open on the last weekend of November if there is enough snow or it is cold enough for snow making as we have the Snow Making Machines now. But after 30 years of snow seasons in Nozawa all I can tell you is it varies. On average I would say it opens around December 10th. Some years earlier some later.
Check out more details here; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/nozawa-onsen-skiing/nozawa-ski-open-date/ Winter is knocking — time to wax up and get ready for another epic season in Nozawa! ⛷️🏂
