🏮Yuzawa Shine Ceremony -

The annual ceremony at Yuzawa Shrine in Nozawa Onsen was held again this year on 8th and 9th of September.

For two days, the village is wrapped in a ceremony atmosphere.
The sounds of Taiko(Japanese drums) and flutes echo through the streets, while Chochin提灯 (ちょうちん、Japanese lanterns) light the paths.
With performances by Tengu and Shishi the lion dancers, fireworks, and the mikoshi 神輿(みこし) procession, the entire village comes together to celebrate.

💡Japanese ceremonies are filled with prayers and gratitude — for a good harvest, for the birth and healthy growth of children, and for protection from illness and disasters.
They are also a time for the community to come together, to pass down important skills and traditions to the next generation.

🌾In Nozawa Onsen Village, two major ceremonies are held on the same dates each year: the Dōsojin Fire Ceremony on January 15th, and the Yuzawa Shrine Ceremony on September 8th and 9th.

Please come and check this out in here Nozawa Onsen♨️

🚴‍♂️ Bike Touring Japan – A Stop in Noz 🚴‍♂️ Bike Touring Japan – A Stop in Nozawa Onsen 🏔️♨️

After a day of climbing winding passes or cruising along rice fields, rolling into Nozawa Onsen feels like discovering an oasis.
The village is famous for its 13 free public hot spring baths, perfect for soaking tired legs and reviving your spirit.
Nothing beats easing into steaming mineral water while the mountain air cools your face.

Accommodation here ranges from traditional ryokan to friendly lodges like Villa Nozawa or Nozawa Holidays, where cyclists can find comfortable rooms, hearty meals, and a warm welcome.
The village is compact, bike-friendly, and has plenty of great food options – from soba noodles to local craft beer.

Cyclists love Nozawa for more than the onsen. The surrounding area offers spectacular riding:

Challenging climbs over the Shiga Kogen and Madarao ranges

Scenic routes along the Chikuma River

Remote farm villages, rice terraces, and seasonal colors that change from lush green to fiery red in autumn

Whether you’re tackling a multi-day tour across Nagano or just adding a few days of mountain riding into your Japan adventure, Nozawa Onsen is a stop that combines recovery, culture, and unforgettable views.

So next time you’re planning a bike tour in Japan, make sure Nozawa Onsen is on your map – your legs (and soul) will thank you. 🚴‍♀️♨️

🌾The mornings and evenings are starting to feel a little cooler.
The rice fields have turned a rich golden colour.

Summer still lingers during the day, but the season is quietly shifting.

⛩️From next Monday on the 8th and 9th, the annual ceremony at Yuzawa Shrine will take place.

The village is busy with preparations, and a quiet anticipation fills the air.

It’s an important ceremony marking the end of summer in Nozawa Onsen.

♨️ Do You Miss Onsen? ♨️ The public hot s ♨️ Do You Miss Onsen? ♨️

The public hot springs, or soto-yu 外湯, are at the heart of life in Nozawa Onsen Village.

There are 13 traditional baths scattered throughout the village, each one lovingly cared for by the local community.

All are within easy walking distance and each bath has its own unique character.

The color of the water, the scent of the minerals, and even the yu-no-hana (mineral deposits) differ from one to the next.

Going from bath to bath isn’t just relaxing, it’s a journey through the rich variety of Nozawa’s natural hot springs.

The baths are open all year round, perfect after a peaceful walk in the green hills during summer or day on the slopes in winter.

They’re free to use, but you’ll find donation boxes at the entrances if you’d like to contribute to their upkeep.
If you’ve never been, it’s a brilliant local experience worth trying.

And if you’ve visited before we reckon it’ll feel just like coming home.

☀️ A Wild and Peaceful Weekend ☀️ Yesterd ☀️ A Wild and Peaceful Weekend ☀️

Yesterday, on the final day of August, Nozawa Onsen offered up two contrasting scenes that captured the spirit of late summer—one wild, one peaceful.

At Motorland Nozawa, rally cars sped across the gravel in clouds of dust. Framed by green summer mountains and distant rice fields, the roar of engines met the stillness of the countryside—a beautiful contrast of energy and calm.

Meanwhile, a marché was held in the plaza in front of the village office. The tree-shaded space filled with visitors of all ages, the sound of children echoing as a gentle Sunday air flowed through the crowd.

You can catch both the roar of rally cars and the laid-back charm of a local market in just one weekend in Nozawa Onsen.

September’s here from today but there’s still plenty happening in Nozawa Onsen! Check out our previous posts for a full list of this month’s events.
